The RUNNER 75 not only drew attention at last year’s A+A trade fair: with the Recycling Safety Shoe, we have made our sustainability efforts tangible in our product portfolio for the first time. This is because it is “triple sustainable.” The upper material consists of 92% recycled PET plastic, the midsole saves 20% of primary materials thanks to a specially developed, innovative solids dosing process, and the Clima Comfort insole is made from 86% recycled Ecofoam.
New! RUNNER Models 25, 45, and 65 Made from Recycled Material
Other RUNNER models (RUNNER 25, 45, and 65) are now also available with recycled upper material!
ATLAS CEO Hendrik Schabsky is very pleased with this development but acknowledges that there is always room for improvement. “Making our company holistically sustainable is one of our most important strategic goals at ATLAS. In my opinion, a good company distinguishes itself by not only optimizing when one area is falling behind. Especially when you are celebrating success, it is important to critically evaluate where you can improve further and position yourself even better for the future. The upper of one of our most popular models is now made from recycled PET bottles. This is a great step forward, but it’s not the end of the process.”
To reduce the use of polyester, ATLAS relies on materials made from recycled plastic. REPREVE recycled polyester is one of the most certified and traceable fibers in the world. The fibers are made from 100% recycled materials, including post-consumer water bottles and pre-consumer waste. These fibers are used to weave the ATLAS recycled face fabric, which is made from 92% recycled PET bottles. Even though PET bottles are already part of a well-functioning circular system, we believe that their use in textiles is a sensible interim solution that helps reduce the burden on the environment.
